AXIA at REDONDO project 42M Meeting
The 42nd month REDONDO meeting was held on 25 February at KBE’s premises in Berlin, Germany. As previously stated, the objective of REDONDO is to develop reversibly cross-linked polyethylene (rPEX) for application in two main use cases: pipes and photovoltaic cables. The material incorporates innovative green and bio-based additives to enhance targeted properties while following Safety-by-Design and Sustainability-by-Design principles.
AXIA participated in the meeting and presented the work carried out over the past six months. The presentation focused on the development of the first version of the PLACE-ME tool under WP7, as well as progress in WP8 related to the project’s exploitation plan and intellectual property (IPR) strategies to prepare partners for market entry.
The PLACE-ME tool is a user-friendly, web-based platform integrated into the REDONDO Digital Toolbox. It enables users to evaluate multi-variant scenarios in chemical processing within a circular economy framework and identify optimal solutions based on economic and environmental parameters. Over the last six months, AXIA, with support from RDC, developed the first live version of the tool. This version includes preliminary data and example scenarios within two modules: “Step-by-Step” and “Optimal Path.”
The “Step-by-Step” module allows users to select materials, production processes, and end-of-life (EoL) pathways. Based on these selections, the tool calculates and displays the corresponding environmental and economic impacts across the value chain. The “Optimal Path” module automatically suggests the most suitable pathway according to user-defined priorities, such as minimizing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or reducing costs. The output includes a ranked list of solutions along with their associated impacts.
Regarding WP8, AXIA presented expanded work on the market analysis, including an overview of each target market and a competitive landscape analysis for each industrial partner. In addition, a techno-economic assessment was presented for one partner, with similar analyses planned for all industrial partners. The Freedom to Operate (FTO) methodology was also introduced and will be applied to partners intending to commercialize their innovations.
In the final six months of the project, AXIA will further enhance the PLACE-ME tool by integrating the latest project data and completing the remaining functionalities. Additionally, AXIA will finalize the exploitation plan and IPR strategies, including the development of individual business plans to ensure partners are well prepared for the post-project phase and long-term value creation.
